What are the Hunger Games?
The Hunger games are played each year in the Country of Panem. The "game" consists of 24 children called tributes between the ages of 12 to 18 fighting to the death. One boy and one girl from each of the 12 districts are forced to enter in this event in an outdoor arena that's built for the games. The event is showed on television to the people of Panem, and the last tribute living wins.
History
Before the Hunger Games were created, the 13 districts of Panem fought agains't the Capitol. They all stood strong but in the end District 13 was destroyed by the Capitol and the other districts stopped resisting. They gave in and lost hope to the Capitol. So now every year the Capitol forces a girl and a boy from each district to participate in the Hunger Games to show the districts this is what they get for the rebelling agaisn't the Capitol. They will take your children, family, and friends into this fight to the death for entertainment for the citizens of the Capitol. Each year 23 children die and only 1 can survive.
Reaping
Every year in each district a reaping ceremony is held. Two large glass balls contain slips of paper with the entries names on it: one for boys, and the other for girls. Each child rom the age of 12 to 18 has their name submitted. The entries increase , so by the time they are 18 they have a minimum of seven entries. But they have a choice to enter their name more times in exchange for tessera, which is a small ration of oil and grain. The district representative picks a name out of the ball. The 2 names who was chosen are entered into the Games, unless someone volunteers to take their place.
Mentoring
The surviving tribute has to mentor the next two tributes from their district the following year, and so on. The mentors give the tributes advice on how to survive the games and battle stratagies.
Sponsors
The tributes will not only be trying to stay alive in the games but win over the audience because they can help them in their time of need. A sponsor is most often a rich viwer from the Capitol, or a group of people in a district combining together to help a certain tribute. A sponsor will pay the Capitol money so they can send something to a tribute like food, water, medicine, or weapons. It could be a big help to have sponsers but also frustrating because you have to try to stay alive but at the same time win over sponsers.
Bloodbaths
There is always a bloody battle in the beginning of the Games where about half of the Tributes die. It takes place in the Cornucopia which is near the starting point of all the Tributes. In the Cornucopia there is tables full of stuff that a tribute would need or want to help them survive. This includes weapons of all sorts, food, water, etc. This is where the fighting always start in the Games. Tributes try to run there fast as possible to try and collect stuff they will need but most likely be killed when they try to run away. Sometimes a Tribute would enter the bloodbath just for the need to kill instead of the need of supplies. The second bloodbath that would occur is at a feast which is held when there is 6 remaining tributes and they meet to get what they most needed.
