Haymitch Abernathy
Haymitch Abernathy was the winner of the 50th Hunger Games, which was also the second Quarter Quell. Since he won the games, he is now a mentor to district 12's tributes during the following games. In the book, the first impression that we get of Haymitch is this drunk who fell off the stage at the reaping. Peeta and Katniss disliked the fact that their mentor is a drunk who never takes everything seriously. They even had to take care of him on the train to the Capitol. He was surprised with their costumes, and liked the idea of them holding hands while on the chariots. His advice to them was to learn new things at the training center, but save their full skills for the private lessons, and to always stick together. Haymitch opinions on Katniss during their private lessons is that she's hopeless and says she has the charm of a dead slug. So he got Peeta to help her by telling the audience that he loves her. His final advice to Peeta and Katniss before the Games is to run away into the forest, and don't dive right in the middle to get items. Also to just stay alive. During the Games Haymitch is in charge of the flow of gifts that sponsers give to Katniss and Peeta. He doesn't help Peeta during the games, and decided if he could only save one of them it would be Katniss.
